Award as seen by Creative People

The Emirates Appreciation Award for Arts, Science and Literature is deemed to be a crowning to UAE's nationals from writers, researchers and artists in all cultural fields. It is delivered by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (may Allah preserve him) as an appreciation to the achievements of the UAE's creative people serving the country and adding, to its history, fruitful productions of creativity in the fields of arts, science and literature. .
The Award is given to the creative person in order to open all doors before him/her as it encourages and appreciates success and excellence and develops the techniques and quality of creativity with creative talents from future generations in all works they provide, a matter which highlights the fact that the UAE supports its dedicated citizens who spare no effort in serving their country and its glory through their excellence, efforts and creativities.

Habib Al Sayegh: The Award is deemed to be one of the most important achievements of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development in the recent years.

Poet and author Habib Al Sayegh, President of the Emirates Writers Union says: " The Emirates Appreciation Award for Arts, Science and Literature is deemed to be one of the most important achievements of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development in the recent years, as it is meeting a long waited goal by the UAE's creative people in general and the cultural class in particular. It is a commendable effort for H.E. Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development as it made Emirati people really feel the true and active existence of this Ministry." He added that the Award has, during the past three years, fair and objective results in the fields it covers.

Al Sayegh referred to the fact that it is important for the fields of the Award to vary in the next period in order to include new fields. He set an example of literature which participates through only one field each year as if poetry participates then the novel and theatre will be absent and so on. Al Sayegh wishes that time comes at which the Emirates Appreciation Award includes all fields of literature every year.
"The moral value of the Award is very superior and represents an appreciation from the President of the UAE, may Allah preserve him, to creativity, as he is keen to hand over the Award himself. It also represents the appreciation of the official cultural authority to creativity and creative persons in different fields. Moreover, the Award adds an additional responsibility on the creative person winning it in order to pay a more and more attention to the value of what he/she is doing in the different fields of creativity. " Al Sayegh added.
He also stressed that the Emirates Writers Union supports the Award as well as the role of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development whether by way of nominating nominees to win the Award or promoting it amongst cultural classes. Al Sayegh noted that the Emirates Appreciation Award did not ignore the role of women which is evidenced by the fact that three females and two males won it in 2007 which proves that creativity is the only and sole measurement for appreciation and honoring.

Ali Abul Reesh: The Award asserts the importance of creativity as a main source of advancement.

The writer and novelist Ali Abul Reesh sees the Award as an appreciation to the efforts of the poet, author, artist or researcher winning it. The existence of the Emirates Appreciation Award stresses the fact that there is a great understanding to the value and importance of creativity as a main source of advancement which plays an important role in advancing national, cultural and community awareness.
As for the creative person, Abul Rees considers the Award as a source of pride for all those winning it. It assigns him/her with an additional responsibility when addressing creativity and community issues. Furthermore, it represents a strong impetus for the creative person on order to concentrate, when working, on creativity alone.
Abul Rees referred to the fairness and transparency of the Award affirming the fact that Ministry does not prefer some person or field on account of another one. All winners of the Award really deserved it, and this is witnessed by the cultural community.
Abul Reesh does not prefer expansion of the fields of the Award in order to maintain its great moral and literary value as one of the most important awards of the country at all in the field of creativity. He wished the financial value of the Award to be increased in order to be consistent with the name of the UAE and its cultural role in the region, noting that despite the creative person does not look for financial value when working on any literary project, creativity deserves such appreciation. This issue is currently subject of consideration by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

Dr. Fawzeya Al Ali: The Award is an appreciation and honor to creativity and creative people regardless of its financial value.

Dr. Fawzeya Al Ali, Professor at Sharjah University emphasized that the Award represented unmatchable value for her as she found that research efforts are not futile; rather it is appreciated by the country and the community. It is sufficient for a creative person to receive his/her award from His Highness President of the UAE, may Allah preserve him, which is a great appreciation for creativity and creative persons regardless of the financial value of the Award. In addition, the matter of paying such consideration to scientific research and making it one of the annual fields of the Award stresses keenness of the UAE represented in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development on the scientific value of the efforts exerted by scientific researchers in the country.
Dr. Fawzeya stated that the fact that three women were amongst the five winners of the Award indicates to what extent those responsible for the Award are fair as they grant it to the most creative persons and those exerting the greatest efforts and dedication regardless of the gender, name or field of specialization.
"There is a lot of national cadres in all fields who have huge capabilities and their creativity is witnessed by everybody. The Award is like a dream that crowns their scientific and creative journey. Therefore, I call them to participate in the Award by themselves or through the nomination of their establishments." Dr. Fawzeya Al Ali added.

Ahmed Al Jasami: The Award is an appreciation to the dedication and efforts exerted by the artist throughout his/her artistic history.

The artist Ahmed Al Jasami, winner of the Award last year, sees it as an appreciaiton to the dedication and efforts exerted by the artist throughout his/her artistic history. When obtaining the Award, all difficulties will become easy as it is a value that cannot be matched by any other moral or financial value. It is an appreciaiton from His Highness President of the UAE, may Allah preserve him, to the creative person whose efforts and dedication leads him/her to shake hands with the President and Leader of the country. He is making a history that will be deemed a source of pride for himself as well as his family. He added that he considers "any effort exerted by any national in any field as nothing but a turn back to the favors of the country, let alone the country's turning back to his/her favor through an award that works like a glorious deed.
Al Jasami confirms that he was honored at a lot of forums inside and outside the country, but he considers the Emirates Appreciation Award as unmatchable on the literary and moral levels because it represents the United Arab Emirates which is the homeland, belonging and identity. It combines all such things in order to add another responsibility on the artist, author and researcher who was honored by winning it. Accordingly, a creative person who understands the issues of his homeland should be more keen when handling his/her field of creativity and more familiar with what must be presented during the coming days. He emphasized that his only dream is to win the Award for the second time during the coming years, particularly in light of his strong believe that it is fair and objective and does not take the part of any creative person on account of another.
He concluded saying "creative people should thank H.E. Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development as well as the Award staff for this Award which gave a great impetus to the cultural, literary and scientific arena in the UAE.

Theatrical Writer Saleh Karmah: The Award is a real addition to the world of culture and science and a main and additional incentive on creativity in the fields covered by the Award.

Theatrical writer Saleh Karmah emphasizes that the country's appreciation award is a real addition to the world of culture and science and a main and additional incentive on creativity in the fields covered by the Award. He also referred to the importance of the Award in appreciating and honoring creative people who occupied an outstanding position on the national and Arab levels and who were taken to new spaces by the Emirati literature and theatre.
He added that thanks to this country's favors provided for them and with the efforts exerted by H.E. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, they won this Award with great moral value for any creative person. It is also completely different from other awards granted during festivals with all prejudices and other accounts surrounding them while they have no relation to creativity.
